Flying Field
Kings Bay R/C Modelers would
like to thank the Public Service Authority of Camden County, Mr. William
Brunson, and everyone who donated time and effort for their hard work
and generous support in providing the club and county with a flying field
and the beautiful paved and striped runway. We also thank Seaboard Construction for donating the material and providing
labor.

Our
field is rather small: once you can fly from our field you will be able
to fly from any R/C airplane flying site! It is located near the
intersection of I-95 and Laurel Island Parkway between Camden
County High School and the Camden campus of Coastal Georgia
Community College. GPS location is N30.81090, W81.64963. From Laurel island Parkway turn South onto
Wildcat
Drive and follow the road past the recreation department and softball
fields. Turn right at the stop sign. Our field will be on your right.

Update May 2008
As
with many flying
sites, development around our site continues. The area
shown in
red now has homes, and the area shown in yellow is being cleared
for
further development. The North end of the field is "shared use" and used by
soccer teams and is also used for parking by ball teams using the
adjoining fields. At these times the field in unusable for model
flying due to the obvious safety issues.
The
area outlined in green is approximately 2000'
X 500' (about 11 acres) and represents the 'preferred' fly over area.
Much of Camden County remains in its natural state, covered
predominantly by pine forests and marsh wetlands. That is part of
the appeal of living here, but finding suitable flying sites, much less
one approaching the 'preferred' size is difficult. The green box
is shown to give you an idea of how confined our site is.
We learn to fly with intense concentration through-out the entire
flight.
The
club has begun searching for a new flying site which would be more
suitable to large planes, and welcomes any suggestions regarding finding
an additional flying area.
